FIREARMS PERMITS

The Spring Lake Heights Police Department is now accepting firearms applications for Firearms Purchaser Identification Cards and Pistol Purchase Permits electronically. The responsibility of issuing firearms permits to the residents of Spring Lake Heights is currently assigned to Sergeant Kenneth Hager and Patrolman Connor Bokop. The Spring Lake Heights Police Department is also accepting applications for concealed carry permits, which is assigned to Detective Sergeant Casey Willms and Patrolman Ian Davis. The Spring Lake Heights Police Department Firearms Unit completes all requirements associated with background checks and investigations associated to firearms permitting, up to the final approval or denial of the applications. The decision for the final disposition of a firearms permit application rests solely with the Chief of Police. His decision is based on several factors outline by law, in addition to the careful consideration of the safety of both the individual applicant and the public.

Applicants who are applying for an initial firearms purchaser identification card, change of address or name on purchaser identification card, or permit to purchase a handgun shall use the New Jersey State Police Online Firearms Registration System (FARS) for all applications. The firearms permit officers will assist residents that do not have access to a computer or those residents who are otherwise unable to complete the online forms. The use of the online system streamlines and accelerates the process for both the applicant and the police department. This system also keeps the applicant informed of the progress of their application.

If you are applying for a concealed carry permit, please contact Detective Sergeant Casey Willms or Patrolman Ian Davis. This process is currently not being completed on the online FARS system.

Applicants applying for an initial firearms purchaser identification card, change of address or name on identification card, or permit to purchase a handgun:

  • Complete the application on the New Jersey State Police Firearms Registration System Online Portal. It is imperative that the applicant accurately completes the form. The state will charge a fee, which is separate from the fee charged by Spring Lake Heights Police Department.
  • Respond to the Spring Lake Heights Borough Office for payment. Payment MUST BE a money order made out to “The Borough of Spring Lake Heights”.
  • If you are applying for an initial firearms purchaser identification card, you are required to be fingerprinted at IdentoGO. Once the FARS application is submitted, you have ninety days to get fingerprinted.
