Applications for employment will be issued when the Borough of Spring Lake Heights Police Department anticipates hiring one or more police officers and ONLY after hiring authorization from the Borough of Spring Lake Heights Mayor and Council has been given.  Applications and/or resumes will NOT be accepted if the hiring process has not been authorized and initiated.  Public announcements regarding the availability of applications will be made.

All candidates must possess the following general qualifications to be considered for employment with the Spring Lake Heights Police Department for the position of Police Officer.

  • Must be a resident of N.J. and a U.S. citizen
  • Must possess a valid Basic Police Officer certification or waivable SLEO II certification or an Alternate Route certificate of graduation from the New Jersey Police Training Certification
  • Must be least 21 years of age and be able to meet the requirements of the New Jersey Police and Fireman’s Pension System (PFRS)
  • Must have graduated from high school or possess a General Equivalency Degree (G.E.D.)
  • Must have the ability to perform all tasks and duties required of a police officer
  • Must possess a valid New Jersey Driver’s License
  • Must NOT have any indictable criminal history convictions and must be of good moral character

All Police Officer candidates are encouraged to register and sit for the Monmouth County Chiefs of Police Association Police Officers Entry Level Examination given at the Monmouth County Police Academy.

Successful candidates will undergo a background investigation to include the following;

  • A complete and thorough review of the candidate’s application
  • Check of the candidates driving history
  • Criminal History Fingerprint Check
  • Pre-Employment Drug Testing
  • Central Drug and Domestic Violence Registry Checks
  • Verification and interviews of references
