OFFICE OF PROFESSIONAL STANDARDS (INTERNAL AFFAIRS)
The Office of Professional Standards is responsible for receiving, processing, and supervising internal affairs investigations that involve allegations of criminal conduct and acts of misconduct made against members of the police department. It is the policy of the Spring Lake Heights Police Department to accept and investigate all complaints about officer alleged misconduct or wrongdoing from any citizen, department employee or any other sources, including anonymous sources.
Complaints against Spring Lake Heights Police Department employees will be accepted:
- In person at 555 Brighton Avenue, Spring Lake Heights NJ 07762
- By telephone at 732-449-6161 ext. 4919
- By mail at Attn. Spring Lake Heights Police Department 555 Brighton Avenue, Spring Lake Heights NJ 07762
- Or by email at [email protected]
It is preferred that the complaint is made in person, by the person directly involved in the incident so we can be sure to ascertain as much information as possible to investigate the claim, but it is not necessary. Complaints can be made anonymously or by a third party.
All officers are empowered to take a complaint. Once the complaint is received, it will be forwarded to the Internal Affairs Supervisor. The Internal Affairs Supervisor will then conduct a thorough, objective, fact-based investigation.
The Office of Professional Standards maintains a comprehensive index of all complaints received against all members. This information is submitted to the Monmouth County Prosecutors Office on an annual basis.
